Desmodium turtuosum can be found growing in full sun and sandy soil in fallow fields, roadsides, beaches, lake shores, and floodplains.[1] D. turtuosum is especially successful in areas with disturbed soil.[1]

D. turtuosum is found associated with Ambrosia artemisiifolia.[1]
