P. hemitomon is found in natural ecosystems such as wooded floodplains, lakeshores, riverbanks, swamps, ponds, and marshes. It will also occur in areas prone to human disturbance including drainage canals, fence rows, and roadsides. P. hemitomon prefers wet conditions and will even grow submerged in water. It can be found in a wide range of soil types.[2]
