C. spectabilisoccurs along moist shores, and forest edges, as well as in meadows and annually burned pinelands. C. spectabilis can be found in sandy, loam, or clay soils, growing in full sun. C. spectabilis is commonly found in mesic disturbed areas such as along roadsides and railroads, and in old fields and fallow land.[1]
