A. triphyllum occurs in wet, shaded bottomlands of natural communities including pine flatwoods, hardwood forests, and hardwood swamps. It can be found growing in floodplains or along stream banks in moist, loamy soil.[1]

A. triphyllum is found to be associated with Saururus cernuus.[1]
