In the Coastal Plain in Florida and Alabama, T. setaceum can be found in upland pine-hardwood forests, pinewoods, turkey oak-longleaf pine barrens, sand ridges, longleaf pine/scrub oak/wiregrass ridges, sandhill oak scrubs, and wiregrass-longleaf pine communities (FSU Herbarium).
