D. bulbifera is a prolific climbing vine found often in waste areas, along roadsides, forest edges, and lake shores. It has been found in mesic, loamy sand.[2]
Associated species of D. bulbifera include Dioscorea alata, Albizia julibrissin, Prunus laurocerasus, and Cinnamomum camphora.[2]
